Detox

Detox, explained: Decoding the concept and identifying the right moment for a reset

What does detox really mean? The short answer is that it goes far beyond restrictive diets, fasting or quick fixes. Detoxification is part of a series of processes that the body carries out naturally. Our ZEM Detox Programme is built around one essential principle: the body already has its own systems of elimination and detoxification, and our approach is designed to understand and support them through a clinical, nutritional and fully personalised perspective.

Detox: from concept to physiology

The liver, kidneys, gut, lungs and skin all play a natural role in the processes through which the body metabolises and eliminates different substances. For this reason, detox should not be understood as a short-term intervention or a quick solution, but as a way of creating the right conditions to support these natural processes.

A well-structured approach pays particular attention to digestion, inflammation, metabolism, liver function and lymphatic function, with the aim of supporting a greater sense of lightness, energy and balance.

Signs and symptoms that may suggest it is time for a reset

Persistent fatigue, bloating or fluid retention, sluggish or heavy digestion and reduced mental clarity, often described as brain fog, are some of the reasons why someone may choose to take a closer look at their habits and overall state of health.

However, a detox does not need to begin with a specific symptom. It can also be approached as a structured physiological reset for those who want to understand their current starting point before deciding which aspects of their health to prioritise next.

What does the ZEM Detox Programme involve?

At ZEM, the process begins with a comprehensive medical assessment, allowing the programme to be adapted to each guest’s current state of health, individual needs and personal goals.

From there, the ZEM Detox Programme brings together clinical assessment, personalised Mediterranean nutrition, movement and therapies selected according to the individual. The aim is not to apply the same protocol to everyone, but to first understand what the body needs and then respond with greater precision.

The programme includes a range of assessments and tests, including blood analysis, mineral and heavy-metal testing, and evaluations of metabolic and nutritional health and physical functional age, among other parameters.

This information allows the medical team to build a more complete picture of each individual and tailor nutrition, movement, consultations and therapies accordingly. Depending on personal needs, these may include interventions such as IV therapy or hydrotherapy.

The duration and content are adapted to each guest’s starting point: 7 nights provide an intensive, structured approach, while 14 nights allow for greater continuity, follow-up and depth throughout the process.

What does the ZEM Detox Programme involve?

Longevity does not begin only when we start thinking about how we age. It also begins with understanding how the body is functioning today.

For this reason, a detox programme can provide a valuable starting point for those who want to address digestive and metabolic balance, energy and mental clarity before moving towards more specific health goals.

Rather than viewing detox as a one-off solution, it can be understood as an opportunity to pause, gain insight into the body’s current state and build healthier habits and decisions with greater continuity over time.

Because before deciding what comes next, sometimes the first step is understanding more clearly where we are today.
